Thursday, August 12, 2010 . . .

Just realized that tomorrow is a "Friday, the 13th."  Be careful out there . . .

water break

Ventured outside this AM and saw this up the street . . .  apparently there was a water main break.  Looks like a lateral goin to the house broke.  Some of the guys are sitting & watchin, but they were done before lunch.  Not many water main breaks around town.  They water dept. guys replace a couple thousand feet every summer.  Kind of a continuous maintenance program.  Fixin that line was a pretty exciting event for my street.

The other exciting thing to happen on my street were the two downpours yesterday.  The AM downpour dropped .75" in my rain gauge and the PM downpour dropped .58".  The PM rain seemed to come down harder than the AM one.

rain

The PM rain had lightning with it.  I set up the camera on the tripod and tried to get some shots of the bolts from my garage.  Had no luck . . . This shot of a flower bed overflowing beside my garage door is the best I could do.

Tuesday of this week I decided to take a drive over to this little lumber yard just into Indiana up near Angloa.  Been lookin for some short pieces of maple and hickory.  He had no short pieces of maple, but I did bring a piece of hickory home.

On the way back, I took a scenic route.  Shot a few pics on the way back.  These old barns caught my eye.

barn1

I like all the green around this barn.  That part of the county has been getting a lot more rain than my street.

barn 2

I'm kinda disapointed with this pic.  The camera just didn't get what my eyeballs were seein . . .

tracks

Came upon this single train track.  All I know is that I was in the NW corner of Williams County.  I like the weed growin in the middle of the tracks.  Ever wonder how many thousands of miles of "steel strips"  are layin on the ground in this country. . .   And how many man-hrs. it has taken to put them there . . .

Yesterday was one of those days that now matter what ya try to do, ya just don't get much done.  I started out by working on the JACKSON train.  It is almost finished.  I started putting the wheels on the cars.  I discovered that I was a about a dozen axle pegs short.  Did the same thing with the JUSTIN train earlier this summer.  Cannot figger out why I have a problem with getting the same amount of wheels and axle pegs when I purchase them . . . both the axles and wheels come in packages of 12.  I remember counting the number of wheels and pegs I was gonna need for this train more than once.  Other than miscounting again, I could have lost the bag of pegs I need to finish the project.

I decided to work on eBay stuff in the PM.  Couldn't really list much cause I ran out of packing peanuts.  The peanuts and bubble wrap that I ordered over the weekend came today, but I wasn't in the listin mood today.

I was still in the listin mood yesterday, so I decided to list a few of the pens that I've made with my wood lathe.  I had all kinds of problems takin pics of the pens that suited me.  Fooled with them a couple hrs. and got no where.  Got it in my head that the pic is gonna go a long way toward someone buyin my pen over someone else's pen, sooooo . . .

I think school started in NE Indiana today.  What a great day to start.  High humidity and 90+ degree temps.  Glad I don't have to deal with school anymore.  I went to school in one form or another for 48 years before they let me stay home.
