My cat, Patches T. Cat, has developed a thyroid condition. She lost has lost about a pound and a half during the last year. That is a lot when you used to weigh about 10 pounds. Believe me, it wasn't cause she wouldn't eat. She wanted to eat 3 times a day or more. Had plenty of energy too. Her veterinarian has prescribed some little white pills that should control her thyroid. They seem to be doing something. She is happy to eat twice a day instead of three or more times each day. Seems to be getting heavier, too.
It isn't easy to get a cat to swallow a pill. They have these soft, moist, salmon flavored dough 'pockets' that I put the pills in. She can't wait to eat them. Once in a while she discovers the pill inside the 'pocket' and 'ptooey,' she spits the pill out. They claim cats can't spit, but I'm pretty sure this one does. I've tried to talk to her about the importance of taking her medicine, but she just doesn't seem interested unless I give her the pill in again in another pill pocket. She is nearing 15 yrs. old in human years. Don't know what that is in cat years. She acts like a 14-15 yr old human when I attempt to correct her--you know, the indifference, back meowing, pouting, etc.
