The ground finally dried out enough so that I could work up the new rose bed. Got everything transplanted from the old. This one is strictly miniature roses.
I hope this one is more productive than what I've had since moving here. The soil is too sweet for roses. I added some sulphur to lower the Ph. I'm sure I'll be doing that more than once this summer. I added some epsom salt too. The manganese helps stimulate new growth. Yrs. ago I used to exhibit roses. Almost always took Best Fragrant Rose of the Show. Closest rose societies to me now are Ft. Wayne, Toledo and Findlay.
Stopped at a garage sale a couple days ago. The people had a little black dog. He was kind of odd looking, so I asked if they knew what kind he was. They said he was part terrier and part pug. That explained everything. He had the body of a pug and the face of a terrier. His face was a bit fuller than a terrier. Interesting lookin canine. He wasn't upset at all about the garage sale. Some dogs get really bothered. All the strangers comin into the yard and garage and goin through their stuff. One dog just sat there looking puzzled and whined.
While drivin down a street in Bryan I don't usually travel, I saw this sign out the corner of my eye. Turned around and went back to make sure I saw what I thought I saw. I have no explanation either. Several years ago a local farmer had quite a few ostriches across the road from one of my aunts. I'm pretty sure he didn't let 'em cross the road, so I have no idea where the sign came from.
While takin yard shots this past week -- took pics to help me remember where to add some daffodil bulbs this fall -- and since there was a clear blue sky, I took this shot of my redbud.
Finally went to the garage earlier today and finished the handle to my magnifying glass. Had the kit (hardware) for what seems forever. I turned the handle out of purpleheart
wood. I thought it would be a bit more purple than it is. First time I've worked with purpleheart. Maybe part of the 'problem' is the type of finish I used.
I have a kalidescope kit I need to finish sometime also.Drivin down the road this week, I found myself comin upon a barn I've been gonna photograph for a long time. The light was good and from the right direction, so I decided to make it a point stop instead of drivin by . . . again. Well . . . it seems that a recent bout of high winds did that old barn in . . . Soooo, if you see something you think would make a good photo, better stop and shoot it instead of puttin it off.
