Bored, Tired & Grouchy . . .

Bored, tired & grouchy about sums up the week so far.  Was thinkin today was Friday most of the day.  When I figgered out what day it really was, I really got grouchy.  I think it all started with last Friday's rainstorm.  I only got 1.33 or something like that in my rain gauge.  From St. Route 15 west, they got a heck of a lot more!  I watched it on the internet.  The red and yellows stopped at Rt. 15, which is the main route through town.  I'm about 2 miles east.  When I say stopped, I mean stopped.  The cell was movin very slow to the NE and the edge was down town.  The golf course got at least 4" that evening.  I say at least because the rain gauge was overflowed.  Lots of serious flooding everywhere to the west.

Everybody at the course has been in a bad mood.  Most of the bunkers were washed down and too many were full of crap.  They had to be cleaned and re-stocked with sand.  They expected me to use the big mower to mow the rough, which I didn't think much of because I got it stuck in the mud twice Friday PM and the course had taken 4 more inches of rain.  That didn't go over very well.  Fortunately I discovered that one of the belt pulleys had seized, then  a hydraulic oil leak was discovered.  So I been mowin with the little Toro.  I honestly believe that I got more mowed with the little mower than the big one on Monday.  Getting someone out to pull me out with the tractor takes time.  So I been mowin with the little Toro with the hammer down.  All that bouncin is takin its toll.  Mowing foot high (no exagertin there) in places is kind of exciting.  Amazing how fast grass grows with almost unlimited moisture and hot weather.  The boss has been sprayin fairways & greens almost nonstop all week.  Great conditions for fungus and diseases.

new water hazard

This is the new 'water hazard' beside the #5 fairway.  There is a catch basin beside that tree.  I have a feelin it is clogged.  No one has been sent in with a plunger to unclog it yet.  Or the problem might be that the neighbor's pond is still overflowing . . . Probably a combination of the two.

A wooden foot bridge floated about a quarter mile down stream.  The amazing part is that it got lodged against a tree beside the #14 green.  The green isn't very close to the stream  My pics of it didn't come out, so I will shoot them again, probably tomorrow.  Grass is so long back there, that I will probably be mowing it again tomorrow.  The bridge is made of 2 phone poles.  Took a heck of a lot of fast flowin water to move it that far!!

Been a real 'treat' mowin back there.  The grass is mud caked.  Not sure if more dust or cut grass is comin out of the mower . . .  You can imagine how silt type dust and sweaty body parts go together  . . . And if you are still wonderin why I'm on the bored, tired & grouchy side of things . . .

Tuesday I was mowin over by 18 behind the clubhouse when I saw a family of geese come walkin across the fairway.  By the time it was over, something like 5 or 6 sets of parent geese and their little ones were hikin over the pond on the other side of the fairway for a swim.  I tried counting the little ones, but gave up at around 30.  They weren't walkin in a nice straight, countable line.  It was something to see . . .  They just kept comin and comin and . . .

disk

Spotted this old disk today in the wild flower area that was planted last spring.  A week ago it was solid gold flowers.  The blue one are comin on this week.  I may hafta come back in the evening to get a good shot.  The light might be better and I will have more time to compose a decent shot.  But with the way things have been goin, the disk will probably be moved.  Gettin ready to plant another area with wild flowers and they will probably use the disk.
