Ramblin Miscellaneously . . .

I'll let you decide if miscellaneously is a real word or not . . .

Been 8 days since I've had rain in my gauge.  Could this be the beginning of a summer drought?  Saw farmers in their fields last Wednesday.  Lots of farmers in their fields today.  Rarely see farmers in their fields on a Sunday around here. . .  But then there hasn't been any crop plantin goin on since the middle of April and Tuesday is the first of June.

I mowed yesterday AM for a couple hours.  I rarely work weekends.  I mowed the back corner around the 14 green and 15 tee and fairway for the third time last week.  It grows fast back there without a lot of rain.  That is area that was under several feet of water last Saturday.  Be glad when the silt caked grass get washed off or grows out.  That fine silt dust is disgusting to breathe.  In case Mrs. Runkle (name changed to protect the innocent) is reading this, at least one black snake didn't get washed too far downstream.  It was swimming behind the clubhouse where I've seen them the last couple yrs.  Mrs. Runkle is a science type teacher who hates snakes, but thinks bugs are neat . . .

I finally took the flannel sheets off my bed this week and put them in the drawer for the summer.  Put the screen in the front storm door last weekend.  Thinkin maybe the warmer weather is her to stay for a while.

Toledo Farm market

Went to the annual plant sale today at the Toledo Farm Market.  It is a good place to irritate oneself with all those dreaded little blue-haired ladies gettin in my way.  It wasn't all that crowded when I was there.  Been a lot worse in past years.  Yes, I bought some Cupid's Darts, the ones that I can't seem to winter over.  Charlie Brown and I are alike in that respect . . . He's gonna win a ball game and I'm gonna have Cupid's Darts two yrs. in a row . . .

tower

This tower was in the parking lot of the Farmer's Market.  Always thought it would be neat to shoot up from the base of a tower like this.  Here is the shot and I just crossed that one off the list of things I hafta do before I die . . . Why are you shakin your head??  I'll bet you don't even have a list do you ????

iron pig

On Rt. 24 goin into Waterville, there is a well known cast iron pig in this guy's yard.  He almost always has the pig dressed to celebrate holidays, seasons and current events.  Newspapers and tv stations from the tri-state area have done pieces on the pig and the owner.  Here is this year's Memorial Day 'outfit.'

canoes in Maumee

Turned around and spotted some canoers paddlin up the Maumee toward some rapids.

Interurban bridge

A bit further upstream is the old interurban railroad bridge.  It is beginning to deteriorate fast.  It is a shame that there is/has been no money for upkeep.  The interurban was an electric railroad connecting the larger cities in Ohio in the early part of the last century.  It went by Defiance on the way to Toledo from Lima.

I'm gonna stop now and plant the Cupid's Darts and the other stuff I got at the farmer's market.
