What a letdown !!! At the time of my last post the weather people were makin me believe the end of the world as we know it was at hand . . . River flood warnings, a flood watch for everywhere else, 1 to 3 inches of rainfall with locally heavier amounts . . . the ground is/was saturated so it really has no where to go and nothing else to do but flood. Would you believe only .1 of rain has appeared in my rain gauge since then??? Yep, its true, only a tenth . . . I'm not really all that disappointed . . . we've had enough rain for a while. There is rain predicted for tonight and tomorrow, but I haven't heard any amounts.
So I went to work Friday AM and ended up drivin the Toro, the little mower (if ya think a 6' swath is little, the rough mower cuts 11') all day. Found a couple spots of really long, heavy grass that bogged down the Toro a bit . . . The Toro hardly ever get bogged down, it is a good mower with good power. Went through a puddle that was deeper than I thought and almost stalled the engine . . . shut the blades down to get through it . . . and almost got stuck once, but I was able to back out in time. Pretty cold and windy. When I got home I got undressed in the garage . . . yes, I shut the door first . . . to shake out all the clippings that blew back at me while I was mowin. Glad it wasn't one of those hot, humid, windy days. It could have rivaled a pine needle or two in your underwear days. That sort of thing happens every so often. It isn't pleasant . . . Mower drivin isn't always the cushy job one may think it is . . .
Saturday AM was the second class breakfast get together of the summer. Apparently I had skipped over Nancy's (name changed to protect the innocent, of course . . . snicker, snicker) name when I sent out email reminders. Friday evening she emailed askin if this was the Saturday, since she had not received the reminder. I went to bed extra early cause the cold wind always wears me out . . . never seem to get used to that wind. Anyway, I was all ready to go to the Merry Lake garage sale in MI. I was thinkin that the third Sat was next week . . . I mean who ever heard of the third Saturday of the month being on the 15th??? Good thing I forgot her or I would have been garage salin instead of eatin breakfast in Defiance. Now she thinks I forgot her on purpose . . . I would think my 6:30 AM Saturday morning email sayin it was today would prove otherwise, but probably won't. I will probably hear about it till I buy her breakfast at another one . . .
On the way home I stopped at a couple garage sales and made one purchase.
Something I've never come across before . . . a cast iron mortar & pestal. It is a monster, an ounce shy of 10 lbs. The pestal is just over 9 inches long. The mortar is 5" tall and 5-1/2" in dia. at the top. The side is cracked, but would make a nice decoration in a pharmacy. Looking at cast iron mortar & pestels on eBay, I might clean it up. It has at least 4 heavy coats of paint. Paid $2 for it.
Washed the Cooper yesterday . . . been a while . . . I just can't make myself wash cars, etc. when it is windy. Been havin a lot of windy this month. The wheels were really dirty . . . disk brakes on all four wheels don't help matters. Disk brakes seem to create plenty of dust.
Discovered that this style of MINI Cooper rims don't clean up quickly. Probably took as long to wash the rims as it did the rest of the car . . . Might wanna consider the ease of washing rims next time you get a different vehicle and you usually wash it yourself.
