Auctions & Garage Sales . . .

Thursday mornin, I checked out the local garage sales.  There seemed to be many more unadvertised than advertised sales.  Picked up a very decent Wilson first baseman softball glove for a quarter.  Also found a Paul Revere stainless steel percolator type coffee pot for a buck.

Thursday evening I went to an auction.  There were only a couple boxes that I was interested in . . . and of course, they didn't get to them till the last half hour of the auction.  I surprised myself by hangin around.  The weather was very pleasant.  I found an old chair to sit in waited it out.  Got the box I wanted the most for 2 bucks.

One of the auctioneers was an apprentice.  I think this guy's chant was slower than most people talk. Seemed like he was afraid he was goin to offend someone.  Finally one of the regular auctioneers took over and finished the auction.  I think everyone was glad he did.

A couple of people wanted a box of old cookbooks real bad . . . The box sold for over fifty bucks.  When the lady won, she turned around and ran away bawlin her eyes out.  Only thing I can figger is that the books were a sentimental buy.  I've never seen anything like that before.

Another weird thing . . .  A little blue-haired type lady was standing to my left for a while.  Every time I turned that way she would step back.  If I turned completely to my left, she stepped back several steps.  Only thing I can come up with is that it was part of her initiation to the 'little blue haired ladies in their big white cars" club that was formed for the sole purpose of irritatin me and gettin in my way.  Anybody have any other ideas???

The auction was at a farm with a very old house and out buildings.  I just had to shoot some pics of the barn.  I thought it had a lot of character.  I'm thinkin maybe I should've waited another 30-45 minutes for richer colors, etc.

hoop

This old, rusty basketball hoop isn't in much better shape than the barn.  Both probably had a lot of hard use over the years.
