Woke up in a fog this AM . . . not the fog most people feel like they are in when they first wake up . . . this was the first heavy fog of August. Was able to make out the houses across the street, but that was all. Would have been a school delay day. Isn't there a 'weather saying' that says something like for every heavy fog in August, there will be a heavy snow this coming winter? Maybe someone out there can help me out with this one.
Not much of anything interesting, even to me, happening lately. . . Been feelin really bored. I think a big part of it is the hot, humid, weather. Had a gusty, .31", 20 minute storm pass through tween 11 AM and noon today. Tree tops were really rollin. Haven't been out to see if many limbs came down anywhere else.
Remember the Edgerton microburst back in June? It seems that the wind blew down a wall of the elementary school that is being built. Unfortunately a construction was killed by the collapse. Hard to believe that anyone was still out there unless one of the first gusts blew the wall down.
This cell phone usin business is gettin ridiculous. Saw an adult rollerblading across an intersection while trying to text a couple days ago. Came out of the post office the other day and spotted a young lady talking on her cell phone while riding down the street on her bicycle. I guess because I really don't many important things to say . . . you probably already knew that if you are a regular reader . . . I don't understand why it is so important to text and use cell phone while doing other things.
Just before the storm I took this snapshot of this hibiscus.
I figgered the approaching storm was gonna ruin the blossom and I was right. A friend sent me the seeds several yrs ago saying no one could get them to sprout. Hibiscus are one of those seeds that need to be scratched or notched to get them to sprout. I recall soaking them in water overnight before starting them.
Things are are really getting tough, even for the criminals. Read a piece in the local paper about this guy who robbed a fast food drive thru window. He got $586. He called the restaurant twice to complain and told them that they better give him more cash next time. I wonder how much one usually gets when he robs a drive thru window . . . Anybody ? ? ? ?
This story made the front page of today's local newspaper . . . It seems that the guy who invented Cheez Doodles died recently. Morrie Yohai, 90, died July 27. He was highly educated and accomplished in several other areas, but he will probably be remembered for inventing Cheez Doodles. Gonna hafta see if I can find myself a bag somewhere in the near future. Can't remember when I ate a Cheez Doodle or two. . .
