Today was the first day of the BIG one . . . The World's Longest Yard Sale. It starts in Hudson,Michigan and follows US 127 south to Gadsen, Alabama . . about 675 miles. It is a 4 day affair. I was still undecided upon waking this AM on whether I was going to check it out.
A few yrs ago the sale was extended north to Bryan. That was the first I had ever heard of it. That year, I checked out sales to the south end of Grand Lake St. Marys, south of Celina. I remember thinking that I thought stuff was over priced.
This year, the MINI and I went out E. Wilson St. to 127 and turned south. I took the MINI cause it is so little. I figgered I could park in tiny spots and since it turns on less than a dime, I could get out of those tiny spots . . . and with the turbo, I could get away from those spots a lot quicker than with the Ranger. It was a good choice.
This sale was just outside Bryan. There was enough stuff there to have a 3 hr auction. I couldn't get all the tables in the pic.
I tried to keep track of how many sales I stopped to check out. If my tally is anywhere correct, I stopped at 86 sales. I started just before 9 AM and turned around around 1:30 PM . . . garage sale fatigue was beginnin to set in on me . . . Paulding is only about 25 miles or so down Rt 127 from Bryan.
Pricing overall was more in line with the 'regular' garage sales. A couple of times I got people to knock a buck or two off the price. I asked one lady about the sleeping baby and she said he wasn't for sale. I thought I'd ask just for the heck of it. A few yrs ago, I offered a grandma $5 for a little boy who was eating a bowl of cereal in her garage. Grandma smiled and countered with $10. The little guy's eyes got real big and he started lookin worried. Since there was no 'manual,' I didn't make the purchase. At that point he forgot about his cereal and almost took me by my hand and showed me everything that was for sale in their garage. It was like 'buy something else and leave me alone.'
Well anyway, I bought a lot of Pyrex pieces today. Haven't seen Pyrex anywhere at any price all summer. One guy practically gave me a box of short pieces of Walnut wood. I already had a project in mind for that box of wood, I just had not found it till today. Really like to find some maple or birch shorts sometime too.
No auctions in the area this weekend and I'm saled out till next week, so I won't be doin any of that in the next few days.
