Ramblin Mike Takes The Fall . . .

This past Thursday was disgusting as the weather goes.  There was thunder, lightning and several downpours.  While all this was goin on, the snow and ice was trying to melt.  Around 9:30 I attempted to take a package to the mail box.  It was a slow drizzle and barely above freezing at the time.  I knew it was slippery, but the drive wasn't as bad as it could have been.  Just before I got to the street. Mother Nature cut loose with a short downpour.  The street already had a couple inches of ice from all the storms the past couple months.  As you may or may not know, water on ice is waaay more slippery than just ice.  I knew this and was slowly shuffling across the street to the mailbox.  The ice was waaay more slippery than I expected.  I made it up the crown to the middle of the street without sliding backwards.  I was starting . on the downside of the crown, when I found myself laying in the street in water.  Usually when I lose balance enough to fall, I have enough time to say to myself, "I think I'm goin down!".  Then depending on where I'm at the next thought is "this could hurt !!"  There was no time for thinking this time. I was gettin soaked in the middle of the street.  I tried to get up, but there was no traction.  I got myself up by scooting to the edge of the street where their was some rough ice.  While doin this I was thinking maybe I should be looking into getting one of those "Help, I can't get up!" gadgets.  I was able to get myself back to the house without further incident.  My elbow was pretty sore for a couple days and my hip is still sore.  Never did show any bruising.  And I'm still wonderin why I live in this climate . . . . Probably cause I'm already here . . .

Winter has been hard on me.  I've had tendonitis/bursitis in my left should for a couple months.  I get that every so often.  Never been able to figger out what I do to get it.  I've had the flu twice.  A 3-4 hr case in January and a few days of it earlier this month.  All this with usual winter time cabin fever.  I figger I will pull through without too much lasting damage as I usually do.

I was drivin around around the other day, when I spotted this beside a ditch in a farmer's field.  Not something you see a lot of around here, especially this time of year . . .Well, actually any time of the year.   Not sure if he is supposed to be scaring varmits or what.

At the golf course, we have/had three plastic coyote decoys.  They scare the geese away for a while.  They've gotten my attention more than once, when I come around a corner an see on in front of me.  Anyway, last summer a few of the tough guy type geese ganged up on one of them.  They somehow got him off the stake and drug him into the pond and tried to drown him . . . honest ! !  One of the guy watched them do it.  Said he wished he could have taken a video of it.  They did a good job.  All we ever found was his tail.
