How does that sayin go ?? Garage sales are like a box of chocolates . . . Ya never know what ya got till you put your 'loot' on eBay or bite into the chocolates . . . Or somethin like that . . . Recently someone unknowingly purchased Grandma's ashes at a garage sale. Bet they didn't know what they were gettin . . . Fortunately the seller was able to get them back. Click HERE for the details. Don't think I've ever purchased anything like that.
Earlier this week I blogged about how I picked this Sears 'Maid of Honor' out of the 'Free Box' at a garage sale. It was in pretty good condition. I usually get double figures on eBay for this type of coffee pot. This one was no different, it brought $14.50. Not a bad return on a $0.00. investment. Been feelin pretty smug the past few days . . .
The auction on this Pyrex bowl ended last night. It holds 4 qts. and the design is called New Dot. Even with a couple visible scratches in the graphics, I didn't think it would be difficult to sell. Paid a quarter for it. More than the coffee pot, but sometimes ya have to part with your money to make money . . . I started it at $9.99. Twenty three bids and 7 days later, it brought $49.00. If you don't believe me, click HERE. Not a bad return for twenty five cents. I'm so pleased with myself that I can't stand myself . . .
I only get lucky like this maybe twice a year . . . in a good year. The buyer emailed me saying that the bowl is for her mother. Her mother had a bowl like this one that was destroyed or lost in a tornado that destroyed their farm back in 1961. That quarter made three people happy.
