This past week was a lot like the week before. A couple mornings of frost. A couple days of strong wind and a couple days of reasonable winds and temps.
The week before last, my anemometer blew off its post and the wind cups assembly broke. It is supposed to have three cups. Never did find the broken cup. I think I have found the correct replacement and it is ordered.
This past week a wind turbine south of here had a 'wind' problem. It seems that two of its blades blew apart and the turbine will probably have to be replaced also. The local newspaper says it is part of a 55 turbine wind farm in Paulding County. They shut that farm down till they figger out the why it happened. There are a heck of a lot of wind turbines in Paulding County. Most of them being built during the last 4 or 5 years.
This pic was on the front page of the newspaper. The clerk said her grandparents have turbines on the their farm and get rent checks twice a year. I'll bet they are pretty nice sized checks. Wonder if they get free electricity too. I know that if you have gas wells on your property, you sometimes get free gas. Don't think I'll ever have anything like that on my .33 acre property . . .
Watched a tv program on wind turbines recently. One has to be in pretty good physical shape to inspect the turbines. There is that 300 ft. or so climb straight up carrying ropes, tools, etc. Then they rappel down each blade. Try doin that three times for each turbine. Don't recall how many turbines they do in one day.
Lookin at the weather for the comin week, it could be on the warm, pleasant side. Reasonable wind speeds, temps reachin the 70's and 80's, but I may be dodgin raindrops.
One day this past week, I saw a train with 8, that's right 8 locomotives. I stopped doin what I was doin to watch it. I figgered that this may be a near long train or that the extra locomotives were on their way to where they were needed. The latter is probably what was goin on. The train was a lot shorter than usual.
Saturday mornin I saw this car gettin gas at the local Circle K. The owner was checkin the oil, cleanin the windshield, etc. I never thought about tellin the store mgr. that they had a historical vehicle at the pumps and that maybe it should be gettin full service instead of self service. Some days I'm just not quick as should be with this stuff.
Simon is gettin heavier, bigger and longer. He is a strong willed guy. I tell him 'No" and he'll glare at me, back off and sit down glarin at me. I glare back till one of us gets tired of glarin at the other.
