The garage sale season in these parts usually begins the first weekend in April. There weren't a lot scheduled, but more than what were held in March
There was an unusual 1 PM start on Thursday. I got there about 12:40 and there were people there and leaving already. I spotted a couple Fire King Gay Fad "Fruit" mixing bowls. The Gay Fads are hand painted. Fire King hasn't been selling well lately, but since it has been a long time since I've seen Gay Fads, I thought I would buy them. The lady wanted $8 for the pair. That is a bit more than I wanted to pay, so I offered her $7. She seemed somewhat irritated saying that I should wait till Saturday when everything would be half off. I knew they wouldn't be there Saturday and said, "Its a garage sale, you always offer less." Her adult son backed me up saying he does the same thing. I gave her the $8 saying that I was being easy on her cause I didn't offer her $6. That got a laugh from everyone listening. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
Friday I went to three advertised sales and one unadvertised one. They were all set to begin at 9AM. My GPS was messin with me, takin me within a block of one sale then takin me back to the sale I was previously. It does that every so often. I went on to the third sale. The garage door was goin up as I was parkin. Those little blue-haired ladies starting poppin out of their big white Buicks and silver Chevy's. It was like a military invasion! I swear a couple of them had a noticeable forward lean as they were walkin as fast as they could toward that garage! I reached for my camera, but I was wearin a light jacket instead of my heavier jacket. You probably already know where my camera was. That wasn't the only pic I missed that day.
Nothing there for me, so I decided to head back to the sale that my GPS didn't want me to attend. I found it and there was nothing there. It was only about 8:50 and I was heading home. I saw a sign on a corner directing me to another sale. I encountered one of those little blue-haired ladies doing her best to get in my way. Every time I started to step around her, she would take a step, then stand there till I tried to step around her again. This can be very irritating, but one can not let them know you are becoming irritated, because I'm pretty sure that is what they do for fun. Anyway, I bought a Pampered Chef apple peeler mainly because I did not know apple peelers were still made. On the way home I bought some apples to see how and if it worked. It works, but would work better with firmer apples than I brought home. Not sure how it is suppose to 'core' the apple. I will hafta do some research on that one. I also bought a box of Lincoln Logs. The box weighed just over 5 lbs. Gonna hafta lock myself in a room to count and sort the piece. If I don't, I'll be chasin Simon, my big orange tabby cat, to get my pieces back.
Yesterday, I went to a couple more sales instead of going to an auction. I should have slept in.
Those are the highlights of the first big weekend of garage sales.
