On a January day where the temperature was 0 at 8 AM and 9 degrees at noon, I noticed that Walmart was ready for spring time activities with a wall of seeds . . .

Mid September In NW Ohio . . .

The landscape has looked better . . . It is getting that 'well worn' look common about now.  


Corn is more brown than green.


Soybeans  are a couple weeks from being harvested.  


If this field hasn't been planted to wheat, it will soon be.


The thistles have gone to seed.


The grass on this flood plain has gone to seed, too.


Roadside wild flowers (aka: weeds) have seen better days.

Random Autumn Snapshots . . .

The weather people are mentionin snow showers and snow flurries for the comin week.  Along with the high wind advisory that I expect will turn into a high wind warning, the autumn landscape is turnin to winter quickly this year.  All a part of the 'Frankenstorm' that is brewin on the east coast.  Here are some random shots of autumn around Bryan.


When the afternoon sun was shinin brightly, this tree all but glowed.


Found this scene at a garage sale.  Didn't cost me a thing.


Black squirrels are common around here.  They don't like to pose for pictures.  This was the only one I shot that was in focus.


I was walkin through Garver Park and noticed this window box on a porch across the street.  


Shot this one just in time.  This is the 16th fairway from the #8 tees.  I beat the cloud blockin out the sun by a split second.


This is the Little League Baseball field through the center field fence.  It is a very nice field.  They hold district and sometime regional Little League tournaments here.  Baseball is taken seriously in these parts.  There are 10-12 professional players from the Defiance, Henry and Williams counties.  Two are pitchin in the Majors and another from Bryan was a first round pick a year or so ago.

Bored . . . Already . . .

Yep, that's right . . . bored already.  Four days off and I'm bored already.  Probably won't be back on the mower till the latter half of next April, so I gotta get used to it or quit bein bored.  And to think I was perfectly content to have a few months off, just a couple days ago.  I think the cold, dreary, November-like day had a lot to do with my mood.  Only got to about 50 degrees today.  

Mid-afternoon, I made myself take a drive to Goll's  Woods for a quick hike.  

On the way, I noticed this old mower.  I've taken pics of it in the past, but never in the fall.  

I hiked the 1-3/4 mile path.

The sun came out for a few minutes and brightened things.

Once I got home, I wasn't quite as bored.

Walkin Through Bible Park . . .

Didn't feel like doin the elliptical machine or liftin weights at the Y, so I took a hike around Bible Park.

It was a cold, gray, winter day, but there was color when you looked for it. 

Before The October Winds . . .

The leaves around here were very colorful before a couple mid October wind storms.  Since then most of the leaves are various shades of yukky brown and yellow.  Here are a couple shots that I took before the October winds.

This is the view from the 13th hole at the golf course.  Those orange trees weren't at their peak yet, but it is the last shot I was able to get of them.

Took these in southeast Defiance County.  A couple years ago, the pond was covered with geese when I took pictures.  Wasn't a goose anywhere when I took these.

A Pleasant & Dry Week . . .

After a week of cold rain, this past week has been very pleasant and dry.  Mornings started out in the mid to upper 40's and ended up in the 70's with a couple days in the 80's.  It was strange starting the day bundled up and ending the day wearin a tee shirt.  One day, I was wishin I had shorts with me.  If there is a place with weather like this week most of the year let me know,  I'll be movin there soon. . . unless it is California . . . 

The sky was a cloudless, bright blue most of Tuesday.  Must have been at least a couple hundred geese flyin around in the mornin.  If I could've sat out by the ponds with my good camera, I think I would have shot a pic or two suitable for a calendar, but since I was supposed to be mowin grass . . . 

 I did stop to take a shot of this Locust tree against the blue sky.  The colors in the pics aren't nearly as brilliant as they were if you could have been there.  

The tall, straight thistles in front of this tree caught my eye.  It was like they were standing guard.

I was mowin along, mindin my own business, when these red maples leaves suddenly appeared in front of me.  They were a much more brighter & deeper red in person.

The Burning Bush's are very colorful this year.  This is a grouping beside the 17 tees.  They are the brightest I've seen anywhere this fall.

I took this pic from the 13th green.  It is probably the most scenic area on the course this time of year.  In a few days, most of those trees will be the brightest orange ever.  All that is missin from this pic is that mom deer and her two little ones that hang out back here.  

If the wind stays quiet, it is goin to be a great fall season for color !!  Been too many years since we've had one.
