Yesterday, we experienced an excessive 'April Shower.' About 2.8 inches worth . . .
When I went out to check my official cocorah rain gauge, it only had 1.03" inches in it. I thought that was pretty low. When I checked area reports, another very nearby cocorah volunteer reported 2.83" of rain. That seemed like a more reasonable amount. Brought the rain collectin parts of my rain gauge in to check them for leaks. Sure enough the outter cylinder leaks. The inner cylinder holds an inch of rain, then overflows into the larger cylinder. So I dried the cracked cylinder out real well and applied some CA glue to the bottom. CA glue is a form of super glue. I use it when I turn pens. If the glue doesn't hold, I'll have to replace the big cylinder.
When it rains hard and long, like yesterday, the water backs up at the back of my lot. There is a waterway back there and a catch basin at the corner of my lot. From there the water goes across the street to a big ditch behind the houses there. The ditch carries the runoff to the retention ponds about a mile south of me. There was just enough light last evening to see that things were backing up back there.
This is what I saw this morning . . . 'driftwood' . . . Someone's firewood was stacked in the flooded waterway and it floated to the catch basin. Guess the thing to do would be to stack it up and wait till the owner comes lookin for it.
