It was a dark, stormy and very exciting night . . . It actually rained where I live. I dumped .58" out of my rain gauge this AM. That makes .78" and 2 days of a trace since June 29. Been a lot of 90+ degree, windy days tween then and now. The flash flood warning is about to expire in a few minutes. The heaviest rainfall was north and east of me. Glad to get what I got.
Took this photo of my "lush, green" backyard a few minutes ago. Compare it with the photo in yesterday's blog. Amazing how things can green up as quick as they do with a decent amount of real rainwater.
The weather is a lot like yesterday, though it doesn't seem quite as hot, 91 degrees, 61% humidity, 15-24 mph wind and it is supposed to be feelin like 101 at the moment. Don't know if the 101 number is the official heat index or not. The heat wave is supposed to ease back after tonight's potential wave of storms. Another half inch or more would be nice.
I hear that Green Circle Growers experienced some wind damage Thursday. They are located in western Lorain County. The wind destroyed about 15 acres of their green house. About 400,000 mums and pointsettias have been destroyed . . . particles of broken glass in the pots. I'm kinda surprised they had that much glass. Thought most greenhouses used polycarbonate (plastic). Green Circle is huge . . . They easily have 50+ acres under glass . . . that is one of my wild guesses. The article said they have 600 employees at that location, so my guess might be on the low side. They supply Walmart, Home Depot and maybe some other big box stores. Soooo, mums and pointsettias might be in short supply and or expensive this year. Thought I was gonna be needin some mums for the front of my house soon. I'll have to wait and see how bad I want/need them.
