Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 . . .

Hey, I just noticed the date . . . Three months till Christmas . . . Are ya ready????

The wind is still blowin . . . Though not as hard as yesterday.  The strongest gusts only made it into the low 20's.  Yesterday, there were gusts well into the 40's.  Still leaves on the trees, so there will be some leaf rakin to be done later on.  I just don't like a lot of wind . . . hot, cold or in beween.  We've had three days of very strong, steady hot winds along with today's winds. Set record highs on two of those days.  The temp might have made it into the middle 60's . . . Yesterday was a record setting 90+ day.  I closed some windows today . . .

Went to a couple auctions this AM.  Wasn't enough of anything at either auction for me to stick around and bid on.  One was in Evansport.  The auction people at that one know me so well that they don't ask for my driver's license to register for a bid card.  Kind of a shame I didn't buy anything, I lucked out and got a great parkin spot . . . directly across the road from the auction site.  Sometimes I end up carryin my stuff a quarter mile or more to my truck.  The other auction was in Napoleon.  Had a great parking spot there too.  Just not my weekend for biddin on stuff . . .

strange roofline

Leavin the Evansport auction, I notice this building.  Any ideas out there what that dome on the roof is all about?  Every so often I spot building with strange 'appendages.'

A couple weeks ago I finally notice how well my Knock-Out roses have done.  Below is another plant or two that did well . . . my 'monster mums.'

monster mums

The larger is 2 feet tall and 3 feet across.  I didn't pinch either of these back.  They didn't grow like this in past years.  They got the same amount of fertilizer and water my others got . . . And they are pretty weak lookin this year.    I wonder if they will grow anywhere close to this next year . . .

I dug up my glads this PM.  They didn't do well this year either.  A lot of them didn't sprout.  I'm thinkin it was way too wet and a lot of the bulbs rotted.  May was very wet around here.  The farmers planted beans and corn during April. pretty well skipped May, finished planting in June.  The April crops are being harvested now and there are a lot of green lookin June bean fields around.
