Decided to take a stroll through Goll Woods this afternoon. I had not been there since May. On the way to Goll Woods, I passed the lovely and talented (still makin me say it), red-headed mail deliverin cousin of mine. She was hard at work deliverin the mail. I was past her before I realized it was her.
On the way to the parkin lot, I could see a lot of trees damaged and on the ground. At the beginning of the summer, we had a lot of high winds and storms in the area. Apparently there was a microburst on the northwest section of the woods.
Going in everything looked normal.
Doesn't seem to matter how many times I hike the woods, I see something new. I have no idea what made this tree decide to grow up like this.
Many trees were broken off 15-25 ft. above the ground. Didn't matter if they were solid or partially rotted. I saw broken trunks up to around 18".
Some of the larger trees blew over.
A 'pile' of blown over trees.
Since Goll Woods is a nature preserve, minimal cleanup is done . . . limbs, etc, are cleared off the walking paths.
Next time I will hike the east section and report back any storm damage.
