Thursday, November 4 . . .

Woke up yesterday to a very hard frost . . . temperature went all the way down to 22 degrees.  There was a thick, but patchy fog in the area too.  Not had much fog this fall.  The temp did recover to a reasonable 50 degrees or so.  The growing season is definitely over.

This morning wasn't as cold, but it was very dark.  Had several showers go through.  One of them was as much sleet as raindrops.  Temp now is 46 and it is a very chilly, damp, disgusting 46.  I am not a fan of cold, damp weather.  Almanac say November is about 50/50 when it comes to completely overcast days and partly sunny or better day.  It only gets worse from here.  Grumble, grumble, grumble . . .

The guys are finishing my new roof today.  Yeah, I know . . . house is 12 years old and needs new shingles . . .  They were curlin and losin most of the 'gravel' in spots.  One of the guys noticed there is a vent in the end of the garage.  Said I should cover it up.  Seems that peak & sofit venting works real well when they don't have competition with wall vents.  Makes sense to me.  That vent will be covered very soon.  What was I talkin about?  Oh, the guys are tryin to finish the roof.  Should have been a long half day to completion, but the there have been off and on showers now and then.  Wet roofs create slippage, so ya gotta slow down and be more deliberate when movin around.  Cold temp and wet gloves doesn't help matters either.  Glad I'm not up there.  I worked for a contractor a couple yrs after I retired.  Me and another guy were finishing up shingling a room addition.  It was mid-December so daylight was scarce.  A heavy snow squall came in off the lake.  I was sweepin snow off the felt paper so he could put down a shingle.  We capped it by street lights.  Better sometimes to stay at it instead of sweepin snow off the next day.  That can be icey.

There was a long article in the newspaper Tuesday about shopping carts.  Obviously a slow news day.  It was a slow day for me too, so I read it.  It was about those small carts that are becoming popular.  All I know is that those dreaded little blue-haired ladies. who plot ways to irritate me, can jam up the aisles with them as well as they can with the big ones . . .

I think it was Monday AM, when entering the local Circle K, a lady in her 20's was goin in the store ahead of me.  The 'clomp, clomp' of her shoes got my attention.  She was wearin high heels and was obviously having problems.  Her knees were close to a 45 degree angle as she tried to walk.  Just inside the store, she 'threw a shoe' meaning she walked out of one.  I almost stepped on it before I realized what happened.  Boy was she emabarrassed.  I had some comments ready that were sure to increase the embarrassment level, but bein the near perfect gentleman at all time that I am, I kept quiet.  Those heels weren't the spikey kind . . . They were pretty thick.  Not good to be clobbered with either kind.  I noticed that the toes of the shoes were very pointed.  Had to be very low on the comfort scale,  Maybe she had a sit down most of the time type of job.

And so concludes another blog post without a pic.  Gotta find something to shoot and post or I may hafta change the name to Ramblin Mike's Pictureless Blog.  Not fun to read stuff without pictures . . .  Well, at least the type is big . . .
