Straightening Up The Garage . . .

Yesterday afternoon, I decided it was time to straighten up the garage.  I need to re-arrange a few things and clear off a workbench.  I want to do some stain glass projects and need a bench just for the glass.

I was makin some headway, when I distracted myself.  I decided to finish up a couple woodturning projects.

cherry
A while back I turned this cherry bowl to keep my pocket change in.  It is 6-7" in diameter and around 2-3/4" tall.  As you can see it is overflowing.  So instead of spendin the change like a normal person would, I started another bowl.

walnut
I finished it yesterday and put change in it.  It is made of walnut.  It is about the same diameter, but not quite as tall as the cherry bowl.

pens

I've been experimenting with laminating different colors of materials to make pens.  I finished the bottom pen earlier this past week.  It is made of walnut and a piece of unidentified orange wood.  Not sure if the color combination will be one of my all time favorites, but the shape is interesting.  You're gluin up square and rectangular pieces and makin them round.  Hard to visualize what you're gonna get.  It isn't easy and it is time consuming to cut those small pieces and glue them together.  I'm sure there is a quicker and easier method that I haven't figgered out yet.

The top pen is acrylic.  I'm tryin to come up with an Ohio State pen.  The pattern is ok, but I'm not too keen on the shape.  the red is good, but the gray isn't as gray as I thought it would be.  Still lookin for the right shade of gray.  I'm findin out that it isn't easy to find.  When I find a suitable gray, I will make the center band out of buckeye wood and come up with a much different shape.  It is a learnin process like anything else.

I made the middle pen yesterday, just to get rid of the piece of acrylic.  Would you believe that the manufacturer calls it gray.  I had a piece of what they call red with the same pattern.  Neither shades are close to what I'm lookin for.

Oh, in case you were wonderin, that bench still needs a lot of straightening before I get my glass tools out.
