Moose Antler Bullet Pen . . .

Last evening, I decided to cut up my moose antlers and see if I could drill the hole correctly.  The hardest part of turning antler is drillin the hole.  Antlers are rarely straight in any direction.  I need just over 2 inches for a bullet pen.  I got lucky and got a good piece on my first attempt  Not always successful the first try.  Probably as much luck as skill when drillin holes in antler.

I turned this pen this afternoon.   I used a .30 caliber cartridge gun metal finish click pen kit.  I have enough moose antler for several more pens if I can drill the hole correctly.

There was quite a bit of variation in this piece.  The bottom pic is the opposite side of the view in the top pic.  The coloration in the bottom pic is actually the exterior of the antler.  This pen has a slight indentation.

I have a set of decent sized elk antlers.  I'm gonna hafta figger out how they size them and see if I should sell them on eBay or cut them up.  I don't have any more deer antler at the moment.  I suppose I'll hafta buy some somewhere.  I got the moose and elk antlers at an auction.  I can recall seein antlers at a garage sale a few years ago. Had no idea I would be wantin them now.
