Got up this morning to a very slippery coating of ice on the ground. There was little if any sticking to the trees and shrubs. I'm sure that if anyone saw me take packages to the mailbox this morning, they took a video and I am now starring on youtube. It was quite a journey. Sliding down the driveway was the easy part. Navigating the crown of the street was a problem as was getting back up the driveway - even walking in the frozen snow was a problem. I waited a couple hours for the temperature to rise above freezing. I didn't wait long enough. I ventured out to get my daily cup of "gas station" coffee and the Toledo Blade newspaper. I know my street wasn't going to get any salt, but I was sure that the others would be salted by then. I was wrong. I was ok at 10 mph -- at 11 mph I was '"fishtailing" and at 11.5 mph I was battling the crown in the street. All the driveways go up to the house on that street, so turning around wasn't an option. The closest flat turn around was practically next door to my destination. So I got my coffee and paper and started for home. Got home ok, but couldn't get very far up the driveway. Couldn't leave the truck in the drive cause it wanted to slide down the drive into the street. Didn't really want to park it in the street either. So I scattered cat litter all over the drive and tried again. Still too slippery. So I found a flat place to turn around again and got a "running start" to get up the drive. This time I made it -- barely.
The temperature finally got itself over 32 and the ice melted. Then it starting raining regular rain. My rain gauge says almost .2 . About 4 PM it started getting very foggy. Now we are under a fog advisory tilll mid morning tomorrow.
Tomorrow weather forecast is a lot of rain and a high close to 60 degrees. Probably be flood warnings when that happens.
