Lester's Diner
During the winter I usually get to Lester's Diner a couple times a week for breakfast. It is a Bryan landmark. A couple yrs ago they celebrated their 50th year in business. It is an old time, small time diner. I think it is pretty decent diner-type food in a 1950's decor.
I tried one of those 14 ounce coffees. It was like drinking coffee from a cereal bowl that had a coffee cup handle on it. Not a fan of the jumbo sized coffee.
It is usually a friendly crowd. During a lunchtime visit, a 2-3 yr. old little boy was having lunch with his mom and grandmother. They were sitting across the aisle from me. He got up came over to me and offered me one of his french fries. Don't know why, I had been served. I guess he was just being friendly.
My brother told me that during the '70's, Lester's sign was used in the opening shots of the tv program, Mel's Diner. He says someone working on the show was from the area and talked the production crew into coming to Bryan to show video of the sign. Sometime when I think of it and the owner is pouring coffee or running the cash register, I am going to ask him about it.
This past summer, the sign was renovated. It looks a lot better than this photo.
