My Crashes !

While the stock market is crashing and the world's economies are in the tank, I'm having crashes too. My hard drive crashed itself beyond repair. It started growling over the weekend. I bought a replacement Monday. Then before I did anything, it crashed for good Monday evening. That hard drive hasn't been right for a long time. I had everything backed up on line with Carbonite. A total of 7.3 gigs of data. I don't keep many paper records, I scan and save them. I spent most of yesterday loading VISTA, getting back on-line and loading my programs onto the new hard drive. Then I started the downloading my data from Carbonite. In the meantime I sold 4 items on eBay. It took me an hour to print 4 address labels when it usually takes way less than half that when I have everything working right. Today I spent a lot of time making sure data is where it is supposed to be, getting those cookies back in working order, downloading drivers, etc. Carbonite does a pretty good job of putting stuff back where it was. It even backed up my email address book. I was concerned about that. Most of my bookmarks were returned. A few new ones are missing. I am still searching for data for one of my really important programs. Carbonite costs just under a dollar a week for unlimited storage. If you have a lot of important stuff on your computer, I think it is worth the cost. I think maybe I ought to be considering some type of a backup computer for times like this week. I'm not getting rich, but I have a fairly steady eBay business going.

I've had stuff crashing on me all winter. I'm blaming it on the Democrats. Everything was fine till the '06 elections. First it was the snow blower, then the garage door opener. My scanner up and stopped completely. The replacement is unbelievably faster and simpler to use, so after the dust settled around that one, I wasn't upset at all. This morning my battery powered toothbrush decided to retire itself. New batteries didn't make a bit of difference. I almost forgot about my vacuum sweeper. It went bad in Nov. The bearings started screaming like bloody murder. My new one is one of those bagless types. The dirt swirls into a clear plastic receptacle. I am amazed at how much dirt it finds -- even when I empty it and sweep again. Doesn't take much to entertain me !!

I think I really need to get out of the house more during the winter . . . .
