The wind storm they been talkin about for the last few days finally got here. The sustained winds are creeping into the mid 30's. My weather station reported a 41 mph gust a few minutes ago. Temperature is about 32 with a wind chill of about 6. Whoa !! The neighbor's basketball goal just blew over onto the door of his new truck. Not exactly something that makes your day. Have had rain, sleet, & snow. If the potential thunderstorm mentioned occurred last night, I didn't hear it. Predicted high for tomorrow is about 15 with a lot of wind, though not as bad as today and tonight.
WJR radio out of Detroit this morning interviewed someone who helps keep track of the lake freighters. He said they were all in port somewhere. They started coming in yesterday. Said there were 75-80 scattered about on the lakes. Then they talked to someone in charge of boilers. Boiler operators have to keep a close on the barometer. Adjustments have to be made to keep them operating safely when the barometer dips. They also mentioned that the center of the low which was in Wisconsin had a reading equivalent to a category 2 hurricane. They talked about a lot of interesting storm related stuff that one doesn't usually think about.
I wonder how many little kids are going to be blown down on the way home from school today. Could be more than a couple if they get caught in one of those 50 mph gusts that have been mentioned.
Thought I'd add a photo I took a few 'Autumns' ago. Obviously a quieter, warmer and more peaceful day.
Upon further review, the basketball backboard missed the neighbor's truck door by inches ! ! !
