A week ago last Friday, the golf course called me and asked if I would keep the rough mowed this summer. I said sure. So last Monday, I started mowin in the rain, through the mud, cuttin away at some very tall grass. Much of what I mowed last week was the first cutting. It had been way too wet to mow till last week.
This is a short, shallow rut. I laid down some longer and deeper ones and lots of mud tracks. I only got stuck once. Thought that was pretty good considering all the soft ground I was on.
This is some of the tall grass beside the 14 fairway. The grass always grows well there, even during the hot, dry spells. I took this pic Wednesday and mowed it again Friday. It definitely needed mowin again. Mowed it again this mornin too.
Someone planted these daffodils in a natural area between the 13 & 15 fairway. No one knows how long ago they were planted. A natural area is a patch that we only mow in the fall of the year with the bush hog. That is the 15 fairway in the background. It was probably too wet to be mowed but it got mowed anyway. Cold and wet does not produce attractive greens and fairways. Tween the natural area and the fairway is the rough. That is what I mow. That area was under water the day I took the pic. It didn't get mowed that day. I mowed most of it today. There was still some spots under water that I stayed away from.
The weather got nicer and the ground dried out as the week progressed. Even had a clear blue, sunny sky Friday morning when I took this.
I can sure tell the difference in the lenses of my camera I carry in my pocket and my good camera. I'm sure I would have captured a lot more detail with my good camera, but I'm not brave enough to take it with me when I mow. There is a reason they call it the rough . . .
