I have been wanting to turn a pen with some 'bling' to it. To do this I need three contrasting colors of wood. I don't have three contrasting colors of wood on hand. Everytime I check my supply, which is about every other day lately, I still don't have three contrasting colors of wood. So yesterday mornin, I decided to visit the Woodcraft store in Toledo (Frogtown is an old nickname for Toledo. How many of you knew that??) I decided to take the scenic route.
I was past Archbold before I saw a standin field of corn. The farmers are takin advantage of the frozen ground.
The first field of standing corn I spotted was this one and it was soon to be history. They were in the process of offloading shelled corn from the harvester. For those of you that don't know, it is not unusual for the hauler to drive along side the harvester while it is workin.
As I finished takin the first pic, I saw this harvester come around the corner at the far end of the field. Boy, these guys aren't wastin any time. Not often you see more than one harvester in the same field around here.
Near Pettisville, I went past a tractor pullin a one row corn picker and wagon, probably on its way to a field. I occasionally see a one or two row picker rustin away behind a barn. This is the first time I've seen one bein used for probably a lot of years.
I finally got to the Woodcraft Store. I bought some birdseye maple, madagascar ebony and cocobolo. I'm wishin I would have picked up that pack of canary wood, but I decided not to, knowing I would probably be wishin I would have in the next day or two. Oh, well, not the first brain cramp of that variety I've ever had . . .
I decided to head south before turning west back to Bryan. Decided to drive past the BGSU campus. Haven't done that for a couple years. I had planned to stop at the new basketball arena and shoot a few pics of the Falcon statue in front of the building. It was starting to rain when I got there, so I guess I will have to do it next time. Rodgers Quad is gone. I lived there a semester back in the late '60's. A new residence hall, Centennial Hall replaced Rodgers. The Commons Dining Hall has been replaced too. I spent many, many hours working there, mostly in the kitchen.
The two windmills nearest the road west of BG weren't in service. Those things look even bigger when they are still. Hard to believe that it takes a very small amount of wind to turn those things.
Whenever I was close to a grain elevator, I saw this. I found myself behind grain trucks and wagons more than once.
In past blogs, I've mentioned how I think barns should be red and that white ones are ok. Very recently I posted a photo of a two-tone gray barn. Since I was close, I took a short side trip to shoot the beige barn. All the out buildings and the house are beige. Talk about boring . . . beige???? At least I'm seein more and more old barns bein sided with steel panels. That will protect them for many years to come. I hate seein these old barns fallin down.
