The unspeakable happened yesterday evening. I logged on to the internet around 7 PM and a couple minutes later, my modem quit . . . Just 2 green lights out of 5. I didn't panic because it happens every so often. I tried re-booting the modem, then re-booting the computer and modem, then I checked for loose connections . . . I even hooked up the modem direct, bypassing the surge protector. I went outside and wacked the boxes on the house. I knew one of them was for internet and the other for cable tv. Nothing !!!! I let it rest for a while and tried everything again. It was dead . . . No internet!!!!! My connection was no more. I decided to wait till morning to call the help desk.
In the mean time, I found myself wandering the house and yard, all bug-eyed fidgety, and staring blankly at nothing, hopin the neighbors wouldn't notice and call those nice people who wear those white suits. They are ok, but they always make me put on this heavy white jacket with the extra long sleeves. Then they tie the sleeves together behind my back. Not real comfortable and its way too hot to wear a jacket anyway.
Slept pretty good waitin for morning to get here. It was raining early, so I decided to wait for the rain to stop before callin the help desk. I've had this happen before and it was always a problem in the box outside the house. I finally called and the repairman came. Said the problem was my modem . . . I would have to replace it and call in the MAC number. They said it would be switched over after 3 PM. That left me with several more hours of wandering the house and yard, all bug-eyed fidgety, and staring blankly at nothing, hopin the neighbors wouldn't notice and call those nice people who wear those white suits.
A bit after 3:30, my new modem showed 5 green lights . . . I was connected with the world again. The fidgety, blank stare left and the queaziness in my stomach went away . . . And no one had called those nice, white suit wearin people. Now I can check the weather anytime and not have to wait for weather on the 10's on the Weather Channel.
I had something like 32 emails. Four or five were spam. One was a joke not worth forwarding to anyone. I had seven cookie cutter sets and a fanny pack to process for my eBay customers. Had a couple e-newsletters to read too.
Took me a couple hours to catch up and everything seems to be back to normal . . . Whatever that is . . .
