Another Week In Review . . .

The work week started on Tuesday, a very pleasant, 85 degree day.  I mowed in shorts and t-shirt for the first time this year.  My work week ended on Friday, a very disgusting, misty, drizzly, blustery, 55 degree day.  I gotta get those little windshield wipers next time I see the TV infomercial.  Only $19.99 . . . I ended up wearin 'full Carharts,' tryin to keep warm.  Full Carharts on June 1 is a record for me.

On the to work there is a 4 or 5 acre field 'carved' out of a large woods.  The woods is full of deer.  It is not unusual to see several deer in that field eatin whatever the farmer planted this year.  This year it is corn.  I saw a deer walkin around with his mouth full of corn.  He didn't seem to be makin any attempt to be eatin it.  I really don't think the farmer makes much money on that field with all those deer helpin themselves.

Once in a while I show some initiative while mowin the rough.  This past Tuesday, I decided to mow 2 or 3 swaths on the right side of 10.  It has been unbelievably long when I get there, usually Thursday or Friday.  I'm mowin along, mindin my own business, like I usally do, when the sprinklers come on.  The fairway is narrow there.  That is why the grass gets so long . . . gets lots of water.  If the sprinkler head had been turned my way, I would have got clobbered.  It was like the boss was watchin me on the course's closed circuit tv, which he vehemently denies exists, and turned on the sprinkler.  Early mornin mowin during dry spells is risky!

This PM I ventured out to trim shrubs in my yard.

shrub
I was trimmin this one when I noticed a lot of wasps flyin around.  I immediately decided there was a nest in the bush somewhere and that I had trimmed enough for today.  I have no idea why I did not get stung at least once.

coreopsis
I love that field of coreopsis that has been in peak bloom.

oxeye daisy
The oxeye daisies are bloomin all ready and it wasn't June last week.  This early spring reminds me of when I went to grad school at SIU Carbondale.  I started summer quarter and when I got there, the vegetation was at least a month ahead of NW Ohio's vegetation.  Carbondale is 30-45 minutes north of where the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers meet.

lichen
Noticed this lichen at the edge of the woods.

Yesterday was Edon's garage sales.  It was almost all baby clothes and toys.  I spent a grand total of 5 cents.  I bought a 'Grog/BC cereal bowl.  Now I have two of them.  I was holdin out for at least two before listin them.  Four would be better.

At one sale there was a little boy maybe 3 or so, who likes blue trucks.  My truck is blue.  I heard him tell his dad that a blue truck had arrived. The little guy smiled at me the whole time I was there.  Ya can't help but like a little guy like that . . .
