Garage Sales And A Fire . . .

Ayersville, a small town in Defiance County had their annual community garage sale today.  They advertised 54.  I visited 51 in just over 3 hours.  Not sure if all of them were on the official list.  Didn't come across too many of those dreaded, blue-haired ladies with their big cars, who get in everyone's way, especially mine.  Did come across one that was in my graduating high school class.  She didn't get in my way and I don't know if she was drivin a big car.

Found some baseball gloves.  Paid a buck each for a couple nice ones.  Paid $2 apiece for a couple that were borderline.  They will sit on the shelf till very early next spring.  Found 4 or 5 pieces of decent Pyrex for a buck each.  Found a couple Corning Ware casseroles for a dime each.  That's right, a dime!  They won't be difficult to sell.  I think I might even have lids on hand to fit them.  That means a better sellin price and easier sell.  Bought a couple piece of Corning Ware Vision covered pans as an experiment.  I see a fair amount here and there and certain pieces seem to sell well on eBay. So time will tell.

On the way home I saw a huge plume of black smoke to the north.  At first I thought maybe someone was burning a brush pile, but I soon decided that something pretty big was on fire.  By the time I got close, the smoke had turned brown.  A dust collector on the roof of the General Motors foundry caught fire.  As I drove past the foundry, a couple South Richland FD trucks were pullin in to the complex.  Behind them was a Defiance FD truck and a couple chief cars.  When I got to the South Richland FD station, a very old, faded GMC pumper was tryin to leave the station.  I thought this must be really serious if they are takin that one out.  Only thing left in that station was the pick up truck for brush fires.

When I got home I checked the Defiance Crescent-News online newspaper and got some details.  Equipment from 5 departments was on scene.  Hope they got the fire under control before the roof caved in.
