106 And Fallin . . .

The official Bryan temp made it to 106 at 5:05 PM.  It has dropped back to 104 as I write this at 6:40 PM.  The wind has been gustin up to 25 mph all afternoon.  At least the humidity has been low -- about 30%.  Reminds me of that summer of '88.  Lots of records set that year.  Don't think there have been many records so far, but it is only June 28.

Got today and tomorrow off.  Probably have a few next week.  The boss might have me come in and mow a couple passes around the fairways that get some water from the irrigation system.

Glad I wasn't the one who kept the fairways and greens wet this PM.  Someone is probably still there doing it.  I have my doubts about many golfers out this PM and evening.  If the place is empty, ya can pretty much turn on the sprinklers and let them go.

Went to several garage sales this AM.  They were pretty much bunched up in two areas.  Easy to get to without much travel time.  I like that.  Lake Seneca is havin their annual sale Saturday.  Community sales are great.

field
bales

The wheat harvest is pretty well finished around here, a couple weeks earlier than usual.  The balin of the straw is in full swing.

leaves
Very dry around here.  This tree and others have been sheddin leaves.   I've had less than three quarter of an inch of rainfall in my yard during June.  Had about an inch and a half during the first week of May and nothing to speak of the rest of May.

hillside
I worked almost three full days this week.  I mowed greens, watered the new trees and touched up the rough.  That involved two or three passes around most of the fairways.  Some didn't need any touchin up.  There are a few areas that get some regular irrigation time.  This hills side is one of them.  This area is pretty steep.  When traction is good I can mow all of it.  Dry, near dead grass is slippery.  This is one of my last passes.  I was startin to slip sideways.  There is a creek at the bottom, otherwise it wouldn't have bothered me.  I've slid down hillsides more than once where the creek isn't close.  After the first time, I don't even get an adrenaline rush.  I know, I know, I am careful, but sometimes things happen.  The boss hydroplaned a cart into the creek last summer.  Stuff happens to everyone sooner or later.

view
I don't usually take this path through one of the tall grass areas.  Nice view of the twelfth fairway and tees.  A green oasis in the brown grass.
