Abandoned Inter-Urban Railroad Bridge

Photobucket

This is what is left of the inter-urban electric railroad bridge over the Maumee River just south of Waterville, Ohio. The inter-urban was started in various parts of Ohio during the late 1880's. It connected nearby cities by rail. It was society's first attempt at mass transportation. The popularity of the automobile and paved roads put the inter-urban out of business by the late 1930's.
