Later the same day I saw a hawk swoop through my backyard and land in a tree a couple lots down the street. I've seen hawks on the utility wires and poles and on fence posts along the roads, but this is a first in my yard. Below is the best shot I could get. I didn't want to get too close and scare him off. Blends in with the trees very well, doesn't he?

A Gator In Goll's Woods ??
The last couple days have been blue sky sunny and 65-70 degrees. I decided to check out Goll's Woods. I hiked the east side which is much drier than the west side. I only had one muddy spot to get through. I was surprised considering all the flooding we had last week. For some reason I don't usually spot much wildlife. Birds are usually scarce because hawks hang around looking for something to eat. A couple summers ago at the golf course I saw a hawk snatch a bird in mid air. It was pretty cool to see. I suppose the bird didn't think so. Anyway, this trip I spotted a chipmunk, a groundhog and a gator. Yes, I said a gator! It seems that a park ranger was making his rounds. He was wading some pools of water checking the salamander population. Said the salamanders were doing fine. Neither of us spotted any new growth of the wild flowers, but the frogs were very loud.
