A Monday Of Encounters

Today wasn't as bad as the last 3 or 4 Mondays, but it was still a "Monday."

I had an encounter with the irrigation system. Even though we've had more than enough rain this spring, there comes a time when we have to check out the irrigation system. We had BIG TIME, EXPENSIVE problems with it last spring. Someone decided that today would be a good day to turn it on by zones to get the air out of the lines and check for obvious leaks and other problems. Around 11 AM, I was minding my own business, mowing tween the 16th tee and fairway, when I felt "rain drops." It was bright blue sky sunny at the time. I glanced in the direction of the water and noticed a sprinkler head shooting lots of water. Fortunately it wasn't turned toward me. A couple summers ago, a sprinkler head directly in front of me popped up and I took a direct hit. Those sprinkler heads put out a lot of water with a lot of pressure!!

After lunch, I encountered a killdeer. She was jumping around directly in front of my mower, flapping her wings, etc. This has happened before. She had a nest directly in front of me. The eggs are very difficult to see, so I carefully went around them. A couple passes later, her mate was glaring at me while she was sitting on her eggs.

My third "encounter" of the day was disgusting!! Pine needles in my underwear!! For the first time this year some pine needle worked themselves into my underwear. Trust me, it ain't pleasant . . . At least today wasn't one of those hot, sweaty days.
