Misc Ramblins . . .

Last couple weeks have worn me out. Erratic, unpredictable hours due to weather, split shifts last weekend, sliding the mower into the creek, getting used to a faster mower which bounces me around more, etc. Think I'm what they call 'burned out' or maybe 'bounced out.'

Realized it was September this past week. Saw them getting the aerifying machine ready. It has tines that go into the ground and pulls out little 'cores' out of the ground. Very noisy and rough to ride. Worse than mowing the rough by far. Probably start on the tees sometime this week. Goes sort of fast. Run the aerifyer over the tees, then we have a machine that picks up the cores, then we spread sand on the tees & brush it in. After the tees, we do the greens. Don't recall doing the fairways last year, so they will get done this year. When I see a big pile of sand in the yard, it won't be long before the fun begins. Unless we get a super hot spell that pretty well slows the growth of the rough, I probably won't get to help much.

I noticed the trees starting to turn this past week. Some of them are dropping quite a few leaves. I 'scrunched' a few here and there with the mower. The bean fields are starting to yellow too. Couple more weeks and the combines will be out again.

Friday AM was very foggy. Most of the schools closed for the day. I was driving across the parking lot when the beer truck driver flagged me down. He was backing to the loading dock & saw me coming out of the fog. Said I got his attention real fast. He never saw a mower like that. I guess it would make one look twice seeing me and my mower coming at you out of the fog.

Haven't seen any swallows all week. They are probably well on their way to their winter home. They white egret is still hanging around. Seems to be getting used to the mower noise. Goose hunting season started last week & I didn't see any but one lone goose flying back and forth over the course Wed & Thurs. He must have over slept and his buddies moved on without him.

We heard that the elk were spotted again in the county. The landowner lives in Kentucky. Someone called him and he drove up and shot both of them with a 50 caliber musket. I'm surprised that the first shot didn't spook the second elk. The DNR kept the heads to test for disease.

The other day, a guy was in the grocery section with a cart talking on a cell phone. He had traffic all tied up from all directions. People including me couldn't get out of the aisle. People couldn't get into the aisle. He was at the end of the aisle and people couldn't get around him from the cross aisle. May not be long before Wal Mart makes people check their cell phone at the door. Wonder how many people are actually talking to someone on their cell phones. Bet a lot of them hold them to their ears just for 'the look.'

Radio station has been playing the commercial about tininitus. A product called Quietus is suppose to help it. Sounds like a spoof to me. Quietus for tininitus -- what do you think????

Was mowin around a big pine tree the other day. Looked over and there was a golf ball laying on one of the branches. Didn't even have to get off the mower to get it -- just reached over and grabbed it. Don't get no easier than that!!
