Friday, December 10 . . .

Hey, It's Friday already . . .  The temperature got into the high 30's today, so I finished coverin up the roses.  I like to wait till the ground freezes.

About an inch of snow fell overnight.  Some of the local schools did a 2 hour delay.  Second time some of them have done that.  Calamity days were reduced to 3 days from 5 this year.  I'm predictin that in a few yrs., the number of delays is gonna be reduced.  Don't recall delays bein used for minor snowfalls around here, but I really don't pay attention to that sort of thing anymore.

I brought my amaryllis bulbs inside about 10 days ago.  I have one bud already . . .

Amaryllis
I might have a flower at Christmas.  Can't remember that happening before.   I think I started with 3 'purchased ' bulbs and now I have 7.  Two of the pots look like they have little ones.  I really don't do anything special to get them to multiply.  I sometimes get 2 blooms a year from some of the bulbs.  Only had a couple second blooms last summer.  Wasn't a good summer for much of anything that blooms.

A deer crashed through a window and trashed a house over the weekend.  The owners found out that their insurance doesn't cover deer damage.  I wonder if my insurance covers a situation like that.  With the number of deer around here, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.

Any of you recall that a know it all type in Washington DC saying that unemployment compensation drives the economy????  A nearby town is losing approx. 50 jobs soon and Bryan is losing approx. 145 this spring.  Unemployment is just shy of 12% in Williams County, so I guess we are doing our part to keep the economy strong around here  . . .  I'm typing that with as much sarcasm as I can.

I read somewhere that the President has played 50+ rounds of golf since takin office.   The golf course I used to work for is being foreclosed by their bank.  Can't blame people for not joining the country club if they are concerned about keepin their job.  Be a few more collectin enemployment, if they can't keep it open.   Once all these new unemployed people start collectin unemployment, the local economy is gonna be a lot stronger (sarcastic typin again).  I'm livin on a pension.   I wonder if I'm helpin or hurtin the economy?????

Saw a couple articles about how grain elevators in Kansas and Nebraska are building more silos so they don't hafta store the grain outside on the ground.  The article mentioned a couple times that the construction jobs are only temporary and that those jobs aren't helpin the economy.  guess it would be better if those guys were collectin umemployment instead of earning real money.  And what construction job isn't temporary????  Once the job is done, if your are a contractor, you are out of business till you find another job.  Same with construction workers . . . Probably not too many newspaper writers think of it that way, but if ya don't have another job to go to, you are basically umemployed.
