Monday's Miscellaneous Odds & Ends . . .

The weekend storm wasn't near as bad as predicted.  Not much snow, but plenty of wind.  There was enough snow to create 1-2 ft. snowdrifts and it was steady enough to make it difficult to keep the roads plowed.

I think the local Arbie's is havin money problems.  They haven't plowed their lot any of the three snows we've had.  Wonder if they will be makin it through the winter.

Saturday evening I started watchin this PBS program about McDonald's.  Somebody had a guy eat three meals a day at McDonald's for 30 days.  They gave him a physical, blood tests, etc. before he started.  After a couple weeks he started gaining weight and feeling sick at times.  He found himself craving the food in spite of not feelin well.  He started havin chest pains about halfway through.  The doctors gave him a bunch of heart related tests and considered stopping the experiment.  They let him continue and somehow he finished the 30 days.  The comparison of the before and after blood tests were amazing.  Cholesterol  went from around 160 to 235.  He gained nearly 35 pounds.  Took him a year and a half to lose all that weight.  Took about 6 months to get his blood levels back to what they were.  If you are concerned about your health, watching the program will probably make you think about your diet.  After the program was shown at a film festival, McDonald's added salads and fresh fruit to their menu, in spite of not granting any interviews with the film maker.   How about that . . .

Read an article in yesterday's newspaper that credit card companies are going to start mailing applications to everyone again.  And guess what came in today's mail . . . An application from American Express . . . They don't seem to wastin any time gettin started, are they????

While I'm on the subject of mail, I received an interesting piece today.  It was addressed to someone I never heard of . . . And it wasn't the previous owner's name.  As far as I know, just me and my cat, Patches T. Cat, live here.  The only mail she gets is an appt. reminder from her vet.  I asked Patches if she was hiding someone from me, but all I got was that blank stare she is known for . . .
