Rippin Punxtawney Phil & Buckeye Chuck

Talk about a slow news day . . . Yesterday, I noticed the headline on one of the area newspapers -- 'THEY WERE WRONG! On Feb 2 Punxsutawney Phil and Buckey Chuck both indicated an early spring . . .'  Honest, this was the headline . . . above the fold and everything . . . So I shelled out the requiredpair of quarters and took a copy home to read all about it.

Back on Ground Hog's Day, there were blizzard like conditions all over the place.  Nothin is gonna see their shadow while somethin like that is goin on.  Ground hogs have pretty poor eyesight anyway, so predicting an early spring was pretty easy this year.

Apparently because the area had an ice storm with about a quarter inch on everything last Sunday, then 5-6 inches of snow Sunday night, then another coating of ice Thursday AM and another 6-7 inches of snow Friday, the local media has decided that an early spring doesn't appear to be just around the corner.

I beg to differ . . .  Since last Thursday, the NWS long range weather report has been suggesting 40 degree weather on Sunday & Monday and 1-2 inches of rain Sunday night and Monday.  There is a flash flood warning posted for the area during this time.  40 degrees = spring thaw, heavy rainfall = spring floods.  Technically it will still be February while this is takin place.  Sounds like early spring like weather to me . . .   Tell me where I'm wrong.  Rippin Punxsutawney Phil and Buckeye Chuck on the front page . . . What a way to sell newspapers . . .
