A 'Monday' on a Monday . . . not a good combination!! I decided a couple hours ago not to try to accomplish anything today, except the 'haf to' things. I'll probably be wonderin why I attempted this post before I finish it.
Been tryin to send a package to a customer in Canada. Due to the weight, it is very expensive to use the USPS. She suggested UPS, but wanted me to tell them when to deliver it . . . Yeah, right, like that is gonna work. The UPS price was considerably less expensive than the USPS. I tried to print a label via the internet, but I got an error message sayin I can't send anything to Canada from the US. That was Friday. So this AM I went to a UPS center. The nice (???) argued a bit with how I had the stuff packed. Tried to explain that I send stuff all the time via USPS and have very little breakage. So when she gave up on that, she started doin the paperwork. She came back with a price waaaay higher than what the UPS site was givin me. So I took it home with me and explained to the customer about the problem and offered to cancel the sale. I had offered to repack the the items into two packages so I could send them First Class International at a very less expensive rate, but she didn't go for that. Grumble, grumble, grumble with a couple ##@@$%* thrown.
While out and about this AM, I saw the local fire department's ladder truck go out. All the other vehicles stayed put. Must be a mutual aid call needin some big ladders. Thought about followin it to get some colorful pics, but I got myself into a predicament doin that a few yrs. ago and pretty much gave that up. I saw a smokey residential fire and stopped to investigate. I parked a block or so away, but I ended up bein trapped by those big, six inch hoses comin off the hydrants. Didn't have enough nerve to drive over them. I was there for the 'duration.'
Weather around here has been pretty 'goofy.' Friday night was the biggest snow of the winter . . . about 3" or so. Enough to use the snow blower for the first time. Saturday was a seasonable, cloudless, blue sky sunny day. Yesterday, was a dark, foggy, snow melting day. Last night produced a thunderstorm and about a quarter inch of rain. Today is another dark day with the temps in the high 40's with a winds into the low 30's so far.
Saw an article about the Consumer Electronics show in Vegas a couple weeks ago. Someone has developed a thumb drive with a terrabyte of capacity. That is more than most PC hard drives hold. I was wonderin why one would need that much portable storage when I read that the thumb drive was built into the handle of a Swiss Army knife. Didn't make mention of how many tools are included with the knife part. Then there was the price . . . . . around 3 Grand !!!!! When they can include a can of WD-40 and a roll of duct tape with a combination thumb drive and Swiss Army knife, I might be interested.
