Friday, June 29 . . .

Well, I thought the big news of the day would be the handful of garage sales I checked out this mornin . . . and how this lady seemed irritated with me because it was 7:45 and her sale was to start at 8.  I didn't tell her that if it is past sunrise and the garage door is open, the sale is open.  Just wasn't in the mood to argue.  At another sale there was this little boy, probably about 4 sellin lemonade.  I really didn't want a glass of lemonade at 8 in the mornin, but he convinced me that I did.  I gave him a dollar bill.  He told me the lemonade only cost a quarter.  He only had one quarter in his cash box and all I had was the single.  Grandma saved the day by putting 4 quarters in his box.  He didn't know about makin change but did count out 3 quarters when Grandma prompted him.  It was a tough sale for both of us.

 gas
I thought even bigger news of the day would be how I went past the Circle K and gas was $3.30 and a short time later all the gas in town was $3.20.  I stopped and filled up the truck.  Turned out that was my best buy of the day . . . 'cept for the 8 AM lemonade. . . .

When the local newspaper was delivered, there was a big front page story.  Seems that a 60 acre wheat stubble field caught fire yesterday afternoon.  The farmer's haybiner got tangled up with a rock and the sparks started the fire. The heat, wind and low humidity was a bad combination!  Fortunately, a construction company was rebuilding a section of the highway about a half mile to the north.  They brought their water truck to the scene and started laying water around the barn.  In the meantime they bulldozed a path through their work area so the fire trucks could get through.  Before the other departments could get there with their tankers, a nearby farmer showed up with his semi and 3000 gallons of water to help out.  Couple other farmers showed up with tractors and tillers to try to make a firebreak.  A few years ago I drove past a field fire.  There were more tractors on the scene and on the road than fire trucks.

Since I was bored and didn't have anything else I had to do, I took a drive to the scene and shot some pics.  They were able to keep the fire away from the house and out buildings.  There is another house and several out building directly across the road from the fire.  Took four fire departments, several farmers, and a construction crew to get it knocked down.  Not a good day for something like that, but the results were good.

round
One the way home I spotted this barn.  I can only recall seein one other barn with a 'round' roof.

 clouds
The big news of the day was this . . . I caught the north edge of a good size storm passin through.  It left about a quarter inch of rain on the ground.  There was some wind, but nothin serious.  Ft. Wayne had wind gusts in the 90 mph range.  There was some hail and cloud circulation south of me.  Don't know if there were any touch downs.

That is today, so far, from lemonade to a bit of rainfall.
