I attended the auction at Limber's Auction Barn today. It was a big auction and there were plenty of nice things to bid on. While perusing the merchandise I came face to chest with this life-like, stuffed camel. Yeah, a camel in NW Ohio. Something you don't see around here, especially at an auction. This guy was probably full grown, though I have no idea how big a full grown camel is. The top of his head was at least 7' high. I'm about 6' tall and I had plenty of clearance when I walked under his chin.
This situation gave me an excuse to use my brand new Kodak Z1285 pocket size camera, I purchased for situations like this. Truthfully I wasn't expecting to take a picture of a camel anywhere but maybe a zoo. If you ever get yourself a Z1285, be advised it has a bright flash for a little camera. Both auctioneers stopped in mid-syllable when I shot the photo. It was somewhat embarrassing to have everyone in the building staring at me, but hopefully I will get over it with minimal mental trauma.
You are probably wondering why anyone would have life-size camel and why would anyone want to sell such a treasure. After asking a few people I got a believable explanation. Some of the articles were donated to the auction with the proceeds going to the local high school prom committee. The camel was one of them. It was used as a prop in a play put on at the high school several years ago, had not been used since and was taking up valuable space.
Now you may be wondering who bought it and for how much and WHY??? I don't know who bought it, but there were several bids. I think the initial bid was something like $2.00. It sold for $110.00! Yes, that's right, $110.00. Soooooo, if you see a life-like camel in someone's front window, office or a lobby, you will know where it came from.
