Today Was Different . . .

Today was very different. There isn't a full moon this week. Maybe it is the weather. Seems like it has been September like weather all summer. It's even beginning to smell like September.

Got the rough cut, etc. in my customary 27-28 hrs or so. Somehow I got about an hour ahead of schedule on Monday, but I still finished at my usual time today. No weather or mechanical delays. Haven't figgered out what I did different. Did mow through several showers and drizzles.

Got home and checked the mail. Had a hand addressed envelope probably from my doctor. There was nothing in it. Don't get many empty envelopes from anyone. Knew it would do no good to call the office, cause he plays gold on Thursday afternoons. I'm pretty sure it was a note telling me to schedule a blood test. Never in a rush to do that. Don't care for those needles. Gotta be something wrong with those women who draw blood all day.

I got busy and trimmed a tree and put a coat of paint on my privacy fence in the back yard. While taking a break my nephew, David, in northern California calls. A Thursday PM call is very unusual. When the phone rings tween 10:30 and 11:00 AM on Sundays, it is him. He is a paramedic. Seems he had a run and picked up a lady that he was acquainted with. Somehow the topic of conversation turned to her deceased father. Seems he was a Navy SeaBee during WWII and possibly in the same unit in the south Pacific as my dad (& my nephew's grandfather). The numbers, time period and locations matched up. Wanted to know if I had any of my dad's service stuff and wanted to see if I could confirm any of this. Told David that his dad, my brother has all the service stuff. I would be quite a coincidence if they were in the same unit, etc.

After that my doorbell rings. It was a college student. Said she was going around meeting my neighbors. She was also collecting points for something. She was the most bubbly, fast talking, pleasant woman, I have come across in years. There are still bubbles laying in the yard. I go to a lot of auctions and if you concentrate on the auctioneer's chant, it doesn't take long to understand him or her-- Even the really fast ones. I never did quite figure out what was going on other than she was selling magazine subscriptions. As fast talking as she was, she couldn't get me to buy anything.

With this cool and wet enough summer, I don't think I'm gonna get my late summer week or so vacation. The grass started growing again this week. It was really tall and thick in some areas. There were a couple places I wanted to go that one can only go on certain days of the week. Oh, well, there is always next summer.

I've written about the swallows that like to follow me around as I mow so they can eat the insects my mower chases out of the grass. It is amazing how quick they can maneuver! I spotted a series of photos on another blog showing a swallow flying through a 2 inch crack at about 35 mph. After watching them for several summers, I believe it. Click HERE to see the photos.
