Yesterday, Lynn, our legendary mechanic, cut some dead trees down. We only trust him with the dead ones. These trees have been dead so long that there was no bark left on them. Don't know why they waited so long to cut them. I asked him why he didn't cut the stumps off even with the ground. He said he hit a wire that was in one of the trees and was lucky to be able to cut what he did with a dull chainsaw blade. He went on to tell me that the hollow piece he set on one of the stumps had a woodpecker nest with three little ones.
So I just had to investigate for myself. I walked up to it and knocked on it. I saw a head come up and duck down right away. I get that a lot when I knock on people doors. I put my little camera up to the hole and shot several frames. Below is the best of the four I took.
With me and Lynn bothering them the last couple days, it is a small miracle we haven't scared these little guys to death.
