Odds 'N Ends . . .

Can't think of anything to do today. Not sure if I want to do anything, but if I don't do anything, I will wish I had done something -- know what I mean?

Friday I did a 'split shift' at the golf course. Went in at regular time to mow a couple swaths around the fairways that weren't mowed the day before. Had the Toledo District women teeing off at 8:30. Thursday a salesman brought us a Japanese made wide area mower with reels to try out. The boss didn't really want it, but the salesman insisted. They made me use it to rim the fairways. Gotta get some hours on it so the salesman won't be insulted. Think they are trying to kill me. Rides very rough and is very fast -- almost too fast. I kept the pedal to the metal so I would get done in time. Got everything cut, but it doesn't do a very good job. Some of the grass was too long for a reel mower. Went home feeling demolished. The rough mower I used last week is a bit faster than ours. I'm not used to it yet and when you add a couple hrs. of the Japanese mower, I was feeling a bit more than demolished. So I took a mid morning nap -- I actually slept a couple hrs. I have to be really sick or very tired to sleep during the day.

Went back about 1 PM to mow a few fairways. Had 5 to mow diagonally. I started with 18 and couldn't mow anywhere near straight to save my life. Tried everything I could think of to get into the 'zone.' Finally got off the mower, kicked the tires and let out a blood-curdling, primal scream. It was a good one -- people were coming out of the clubhouse to see what was going on. It helped, I was able to mow acceptably straight till I was done with the diagonals. My next assignment was to go to the front 9 and start mowing lengthwise till I got tired of mowing or it got to crowded. I started on #3. Boy, did I butcher it. I did a decent job on #4. With #2 which has a dog leg in it, I was ready to scream again. Fortunately the course was getting busy and I decided to quit. I think my problem was that I was worrying about mowin #1.

Photobucket

This is #1. I shot the photo a couple yrs. ago. I was about halfway up the hill. The tees are at the top. Would you want to butcher the stripes for all to see??? Another guy is coming in Sat & maybe Sun PM to finish what I didn't get. Looking at the week's weather predictions, I think I better get up and start mowin the rough till the golfers come and get in my way.

ELK UPDATE
The Dept of Wildlife has determined that no one around here raises elk anymore. They don't know where they are from. Obviously Michigan or Indiana. The bull and cow were first sighted in Indiana and seem to be moving a few miles east every day. The bull was bigger than the average bull elk. The boss's son said they estimated the rack to be at least a 5 by 5, possibly 6 by 6. The numbers are feet. The Dept of Wildlife doesn't have any rifles big enough to bring them down if the needed. The boss offered the use of one of his big hunting rifles if it was needed. Haven't seen anything in the newspapers. If they wander into a town, it will be big news.

Enough ramblin for now. Still can't decide what I want to do or if I even want to do anything.
