It Was A Gulley Washer . . .

It was a gully washer!!  First rain since the 2" deluge back on the 22nd of June.  The first wave went through just before 11 AM.  I got about .2 in the rain gauge.  No wind or anything like that, just some lightning and a quick downpour.

Around 11:30 to Noon, the wind started blowin hard and I mean hard!!  Got another 3/4 inch in about a half hour.  The wind blew the whole time.

corn field

After the storm quit completely,  I took a drive to see if there was any damage.  A lot of corn, short and tall was blown over to about a 45 degree angle.  I've seen wheat blown down, but I don't recall seein corn blown over.  There were some good sized limbs down here and there.  Saw a shed with its metal roof blown off.

Around 3 this PM, the boss called and told me they had a whoppin .3" of rain.  Didn't like it when I told him I had a smidge under an inch.  He pumped the pond down about 2 ft. this weekend to keep the greens and fairways from burnin up.  At least the cloudy, cooler weather will help the watering situation and let the pond fill up.  We pump water from a well to keep the pond full.  Also said the old, big tree back by 14 blew over.  A couple of our guys, who burn wood, were takin care of it.

The guy who usually mows the fairways is gone this week, so I get to go in a little later than usual and mow them tomorrow.  The rough is pretty well burned out and there isn't much to mow right now.
