Turned A Pen Today . . .

Lacewood

Been lookin for something interesting and/or fun to do, but haven't come up with anything lately.  So I decided to go to my cold garage and start up the lathe.  I haven't done any turning since early summer.  I had to take some time to tidy things up and find things.

I ended up turning this European style twist pen from Lacewood.  Lacewood is grown in Australia and is a relative of the American Sycamore.  It is a neat, exotic wood that it is used extensively in veneers, decorative boxes and ornaments, intarsia, plywood, and turning.  When it is cut correctly, it has a 'fish scale like' appearance.
