Daffodils, Lenten Rose & More . . .

daffodil 1

This AM I noticed a clump of daffodils tryin to bloom.  The temperature is in the 40's and it is quite windy, so I really don't blame 'em for keepin their 'heads' down.

This is another clump that is usually one of the first to bloom.

I walked around to the north side of the house and found some of my Lenten Roses thinkin about bloomin.  I have some light yellow ones that are showin color, but not near as far as long as the purple ones.  Not a good day to try to take portrait shots of flowers.  With the strong wind, I had to shoot with a very quick shutter speed.

Would you believe that on April 1 & 2 of 2010 record highs of 82 and 81 were set here??  It was also very wet.  I checked my blogs from the first of April, 2010 and one of the neighbors had mowed his yard already.  I haven't even seriously thought about takin the snow shovel out of the truck yet.  I've noticed snow flurries a couple times today.

Over the weekend I tried cleanin out a few flower beds.  It was way to windy.  Anything I cut blew away and anything I tried to pick out of the beds blew too.  Decided there were other things to do that might appreciate bein done like planting some ground cover on the back boundary.  That didn't last too long either.  Handling wet roots in the cold wind was freezin my fingers and at times a gust of wind would blow the loose ones all over the place.  It has been pretty dry around here this spring.  Hopefully I can get my root stock in the ground before it gets muddy.  I guess I could 'man' up and go do it and freeze, but  . . .
